[New Study] Bridging the Innovation Gap: What Utility-Startup Partnerships Need to Succeed View the Findings →
About the Technology
Over 1 million of the 5 million homeowners who need new roofs every year have excellent locations for the energy security and independence of solar, but no one makes a building-integrated photovoltaic shingle a roofer can actually install without becoming an electrician. By closely examining the core functions of the roof and point-of-use energy production, our team has boiled our system down to just 4 key components, eliminating dozens of inventory items that our competition needs three different trades and countless hours to manage.
The solar element is mounted in a fully recyclable backplate which integrates the wiring and connections our competitors need electricians to manage. The backplate resin is thermally conductive to dissipate heat and photo-active to maximize the bifacial gain from our heterojunction n-type cells, resulting in theoretical efficiencies exceeding 30%. The electronics are housed in an enclosure secured by the roofer and the whole system is hardwired to remain at 0 volts until the one electrician needed on the crew wires up the point of interconnection to the loads and turns the system on.
