Program Development and Outreach Intern

Position Description

The Program Development and Outreach Intern will work collaboratively with our team to build partnerships and strengthen our energy innovation ecosystem. This work includes researching federal program opportunities, writing and communications, outreach to partners and potential startups for programs (with a focus on higher education), and supporting our EnergyTech University Prize initiative with the Department of Energy. Additionally, the intern will support other key areas of program development – including events and grant writing. The position is best suited for someone with strong project management and writing skills and an interest in energy and climate.

The role will be part-time (approximately 12/hours/week). Start date is anticipated for September 2024 (with potential for an August start if a candidate is identified and available). End date is mid-December 2024. The compensation will range from $20-25/hour based on experience. This is a primarily remote position with some regular meetings with the team in Minneapolis. Interns will be asked to use their own devices to complete this work.

Responsibilities

  • Researching federal programs and funding to support our programming or startup funding support. Vetting and tracking these opportunities. Writing grant proposals for pursuits. 
  • Help coordinate our recruiting and outreach efforts in support of the Department of Energy’s EnergyTech University Prize program. A primary responsibility in this work will be reaching out to Midwest colleges and universities to recruit and support teams for this competition. 
  • Collaborate with the team to develop programming for the Cleantech Innovation Pathways, which includes communications and outreach to partners and communities.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of higher education in business, communications, environmental science, renewable energy, sociology, political science, public administration, or other relevant studies
  • Proven strengths in project and time management and working independently
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • A completed undergraduate degree. This position may be filled as a “Fellowship” for a graduate student.
  • Experience with grantwriting or report development. 
  • Knowledge of energy and environment topics 
  • Experience with community or campus organizing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
